At Sramana Publications, originality is not just a standard — it’s a legal and ethical obligation. We are committed to publishing content that is authentic, responsibly produced, and free from plagiarism or misappropriation. This policy outlines our definitions, author responsibilities, verification procedures, and actions taken against violations.

1. Definition of Original Work

Original work refers to any written, visual, or creative content that is:

  • Created solely by the submitting author(s)

  • Not copied, paraphrased, or adapted from another source without clear citation and permission

  • Free from uncredited use of copyrighted material, including but not limited to text, images, quotes, and data

  • Not previously published in full or in part in another language, medium, or platform (unless disclosed and agreed in writing)

2. What Constitutes Plagiarism

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:

  • Copying text, ideas, concepts, or data from another source without proper citation

  • Submitting someone else’s work as one’s own

  • Reproducing large sections of text—even with citation—without meaningful transformation or original contribution

  • Paraphrasing existing content without attribution

  • Use of AI-generated or ghostwritten content that lacks declared authorship and transparency

  • Republishing previously submitted content under a new title or in slightly altered form without acknowledgment

Intentional or unintentional plagiarism is treated equally under this policy.

3. Author Responsibility

By submitting a manuscript to Sramana Publications, the author warrants that:

  • The work is original, owned by the author, and free of third-party rights infringements

  • Proper credit is given to all cited works, whether paraphrased or quoted

  • Any collaboration or assistance (editorial, ghostwriting, AI tools) is transparently disclosed

  • They understand the legal and reputational consequences of plagiarism

We strongly recommend that authors use plagiarism detection tools before submission and retain working drafts and references for record-keeping.

4. Verification & Screening

Every submission is subject to originality screening through professional plagiarism detection software and human editorial review. Our team assesses:

  • Overall duplication ratio

  • Source integrity and context of citations

  • Inconsistencies in tone, voice, or formatting

  • Previously published works by the author

Additional scrutiny is applied to content flagged for suspicion or sourced from public domains, AI-assisted tools, or multi-author collaborations.

5. Consequences of Policy Violation

If plagiarism is identified at any stage, the following actions may be taken:

  • Pre-publication: Immediate rejection of the manuscript. Future submissions may be restricted.

  • Post-publication: Retraction of the published work, public notice of misconduct, and permanent blacklisting of the author(s).

  • Legal action: In case of copyright infringement, Sramana Publications reserves the right to initiate legal proceedings and cooperate with affected third parties.

No exceptions will be made for oversight, miscommunication, or claims of ignorance.

6. AI-Generated & Assisted Content

We accept ethically developed content that uses AI tools transparently and supplementarily. However:

  • AI-generated submissions must be clearly labeled as such

  • Authors are fully accountable for the content’s originality, accuracy, and licensing

  • Undisclosed AI usage that results in duplicated or derivative content will be treated as plagiarism

7. Reuse of Published Work

We do not accept works previously published in part or in whole without prior discussion and approval. Authors must declare:

  • If the manuscript has appeared in a journal, blog, or self-published format

  • If parts of the work (chapters, essays, excerpts) have been published elsewhere

  • Any overlapping submissions to other publishers during evaluation

Failure to disclose constitutes a breach of our originality standards.

8. Reporting Plagiarism

We encourage readers, authors, and editors to report suspected plagiarism. Reports should include:

  • The source in question

  • The suspected original work

  • Any contextual information

Sramana Publications treats all reports seriously and investigates every valid concern confidentially.

9. Updates to This Policy

This policy may be reviewed and updated periodically to reflect changes in legal standards or operational protocols. Authors and partners are advised to check this page before submission.
